The Different Types of Travel Insurance

By Isabel Cochea

Travel insurance is becoming popular with travelers looking to minimize worry and financial risk. You shouldn't travel unprotected, but keep in mind that not all travel insurance is for everyone. Worst of all you do not want to get the wrong insurance and pay more than you should. Here is a list of the different types of travel insurance you can buy.

Trip Cancellation or Interruption

This type of insurance covers you if you need to cancel in the event of sickness, the death of a relative, or if your tour company or airline goes out of business. Your insurance won't cover your trip if all of a sudden you don't feel like going anymore, so don't use this as an excuse if you are uncertain about your plans.

Health Care

Health care insurance is the most important travel insurance because it involves your health and well being. There are many things that can happen while you travel and with this type of insurance you are able to get the medical attention you need.

Adventure and Extreme Sports Travel

Extreme sports insurance is necessary for those of you who like to be adventurous when you travel. Regular insurance policies won't cover you if you decide to go scuba diving or rock climbing. This could be a great addition to your health care policy.

Baggage and Belongings

Baggage insurance is included in most policies, rarely will you see it alone. Make sure to check with your insurance company to see what items are covered.

Flight Insurance

Flight insurance is expensive and unnecessary. You do not need it. It only covers you if the plane goes down. Most it plays upon traveler's insecurities.
